PM urges faster work on Long Thanh Airport for year-end launch
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, during his on-site inspection of the Long Thanh International Airport project in Dong Nai province on August 2, requested relevant ministries and units to expedite construction to ensure the airport is ready to welcome its first flight on December 19, 2025.

The goal of welcoming the first flight by year-end is demanding but achievable with determination, scientific methods, and efficient coordination, said the PM at the construction site.
According to Minister of Construction Tran Hong Minh, component 3 which includes key facilities like the runway and passenger terminal has a total investment of over VND99 trillion and comprises 14 bidding packages. Three have been completed, nine are underway, and contractors for the remaining two are about to be selected.
The passenger terminal package has reached nearly 79.5% structural completion. Over 4,400 workers and 1,000 pieces of equipment have been mobilised. Interior work is progressing rapidly, with aluminum-glass walls, ceilings, and painting underway in the central and wing areas of the terminal.
Meanwhile, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) reported that critical technical systems, including baggage handling, security screening, jet bridges, escalators, and elevators, are being installed urgently. As soon as equipment arrives, it will be assembled on site to keep pace with the schedule.
ACV is also focusing on staff recruitment, prioritising local residents who gave up land for the project. On August 23, it will host a large-scale job fair to hire technical, operational, and administrative personnel for trial operations later this year.
After inspecting the passenger terminal and the second runway, the Prime Minister noted that the construction site still appeared cluttered and urged greater urgency. He directed ACV and contractors to increase working shifts, deploy more workers and equipment, and strictly manage quality and safety.
He also requested the timely completion of all technical infrastructure such as power supply, ventilation and air conditioning, fire protection, water systems, landscaping, and essential operational systems like elevators, passenger boarding bridges, and baggage scanners.
Regarding transport connectivity, the PM instructed the Ministry of Construction and Dong Nai province to review and accelerate the synchronisation of connecting routes to highways, seaports, and rail stations. He asked the province to expedite the upgrading of existing roads like Ton Duc Thang (25B) and Nguyen Ai Quoc (25C) in Nhon Trach to match the airport’s construction schedule.
Concluding the inspection, the Government leader reaffirmed that Long Thanh International Airport is a national flagship project of regional scale with strategic economic significance. Therefore, putting the airport into operation on time, starting with the first flight on December 19 this year, is a target that must be met.
Covering a total area of 5,000 hectares and with an investment of nearly VND336.63 trillion, the Long Thanh International Airport project is a national key infrastructure work. Although the National Assembly has approved extending the completion deadline for Phase 1 to the end of 2026, the Prime Minister has repeatedly urged all relevant units to make maximum efforts to accelerate progress, overcome difficulties, and not tolerate any delays.
This is the PM’s eighth on-site inspection trip to the construction site of the project in Dong Nai province.
