PM tells Da Nang to make headway in development in central region
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed Da Nang city to position itself as a ‘pioneer’ in economic development in the central region, aiming for breakthrough growth with a target of double-digit GDP growth in the coming years.
Addressing the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the implementation of National Assembly Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 on urban governance and pilot special mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang, Chinh pointed out that Da Nang has not yet developed as expected and has not fully tap into its unique potential, outstanding opportunities, or competitive advantages.
If Da Nang breaks through, it will drive the development of the entire central and Central Highlands regions, he stated.
The PM, who is also head of the Steering Committee, then outlined key requirements for the city to implement several special development policies, focusing on leveraging its potential and advantages. Accordingly, the city must assume a leading role in driving economic growth in the central and Central Highlands regions, aiming for double-digit economic growth, with a focus on key sectors such as tourism, high-tech industries, services, and logistics.
It’s necessary to rapidly complete the urban governance model under the National Assembly Resolution to ensure effective management and administration, while streamlining administrative procedures to create a favourable environment for residents and businesses, he stressed.
He reminded the city to promote comprehensive digital transformation across economic, educational, healthcare, and urban management sectors, and at the same time to build a smart city to enhance competitiveness.
In addition, the government leader asked Da Nang to upgrade transportation infrastructure, invest in digital infrastructure and clean energy to support sustainable development goals, implement solutions to protect the environment and develop eco-friendly, green urban areas.
He requested relevant ministries and agencies to assist Da Nang in developing pilot mechanisms and policies tailored to the city’s unique characteristics, such as investment incentives, financial management, and land use policies, as well as proactively proposing solutions to resolve obstacles and create new momentum for development.
The National Assembly adopted Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 on urban governance and pilot special mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang in June 2024. Under the resolution, due to take effect on January 1, 2025, Da Nang will develop priority mechanisms for finance, state budget management, infrastructure investment. It will attract strategic investors in fields such as innovation, R&D, data, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. The resolution also talks investment, management, and exploitation of Da Nang’s Free Trade Zone.
To date, relevant ministries and agencies have completed drafting a proposal on the establishment of a free trade zone and another proposal on the expansion of the state management functions for the Da Nang Hi-Tech Park Management Board.
This year, Da Nang is expected to record economic growth of 7.51%, state budget revenue of VND 25.7 trillion, up 20% against last year, and development investment of VND32.85 trillion, up 7.2%.
