PM Pham Minh Chinh holds dialogue with farmers nationwide
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 31 held a dialogue with farmers nationwide, listening to recommendations of farmers, cooperatives, experts, scientists, and businesses to effectively implement the Party’s guidelines and the State’s policies on agriculture and rural development.
In his opening speech, Chinh highlighted the essential contributions of farmers, cooperatives, and the agriculture sector in achieving key targets in 2024, saying agriculture recorded impressive performance with export-import turnover reaching a record US$62.5 billion, surpassing the US$55 billion target.
According to the Government leader, Vietnam aims for GDP growth of at least 8% in 2025 to surpass targets set by the National Assembly, laying the foundation for double-digit growth in subsequent years. To meet the target, he said farmers and the agricultural sector in general must embrace ecological farming, digital transformation, and modern rural development.
He emphasized the importance of fostering mutual understanding and collective efforts to build a prosperous and sustainable agricultural sector.
The Prime Minister urged delegates to focus on enhancing achievements, addressing challenges, and providing innovative solutions for development.
Ahead of the dialogue, nearly 3,000 questions and suggestions were submitted to the government, focusing on improving mechanisms and policies to support cooperatives and agricultural value chains; and planning large-scale production zones and specialized farming regions.
They also expected to encourage land zoning for large-scale farming and enhance credit access for rural development, alongside accelerating digital transformation in agriculture and vocational training for rural labour.
The Prime Minister’s dialogue with farmers is an annual event organized by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union since 2018. Since its inception, the meeting has been held five times, becoming a key platform for the Prime Minister to directly engage with farmers and cooperatives on critical issues in agriculture, rural development, and farming communities.
