PM holds dialogue with Japanese firms, urges stronger high-tech cooperation
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a dialogue with Japanese businesses in Hanoi on March 21, calling for stronger cooperation and faster implementation of key projects, particularly in high-technology sectors.
The meeting marked his first dialogue with foreign enterprises in 2026, underscoring the Vietnamese Government’s commitment to facilitating investment, resolving bottlenecks, and enhancing the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation projects.
Japanese companies expressed strong confidence in Vietnam’s business environment, highlighting progress in institutional reform, competitive advantages, and supportive policies, including tax incentives for hybrid vehicles and improved investment procedures.
According to a survey by the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), 67.5% of Japanese firms operating in Vietnam reported profits in 2025, the highest level since 2009. Business sentiment remains positive, with nearly half of respondents expecting improved performance in 2026 and a majority planning to expand operations, maintaining Vietnam’s position as a top destination in ASEAN.
Addressing concerns related to Hanoi’s roadmap to limit petrol-powered motorbikes, city authorities emphasised that the policy aims to improve air quality and enhance quality of life. The capital is promoting a comprehensive transition through increased investment in public transport, development of clean-energy infrastructure, and pilot implementation of low-emission zones, while ensuring that policies are designed in a balanced and inclusive manner.
Representatives of Vietnamese ministries and agencies also responded to a range of issues raised by Japanese enterprises, including energy financing, major infrastructure projects such as the North–South expressway, and urban railway developments in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as initiatives supporting green transition and climate adaptation.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed appreciation for the contributions of Japanese businesses to Vietnam’s economic development and bilateral relations. He reaffirmed that Vietnam prioritises attracting high-quality investment projects that are efficient, environmentally friendly, and driven by innovation, particularly in areas such as digital transformation, green growth, semiconductor manufacturing, renewable energy, and high-tech industries.
The Prime Minister also encouraged Japanese partners to support Vietnam in accessing new investment flows, including sustainable and green finance initiatives, and to further facilitate the participation of Vietnamese enterprises in global supply chains.
Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to foreign investors, he assured that Vietnam would continue to ensure a stable political environment, safeguard legitimate rights and interests, and maintain consistent investment policies. It would also foster close cooperation between the State, businesses, and society to achieve sustainable and mutually beneficial development.
