Party’s Central Theoretical Council for 2026-2031 term set up

VOV.VN - The Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam has decided to establish the Central Theoretical Council for the 2026–2031 term, with an announcement made at a conference held at the Party Central Committee headquarters in Hanoi on March 10.

The Central Theoretical Council operates under the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics and serves as an advisory body assisting the academy in providing strategic policy consultation to the Party Central Committee, particularly the Politburo and the Secretariat, on political and theoretical issues.

Its work provides a theoretical basis for shaping, refining and developing the Party’s policies and guidelines, as well as advising on national-level research programmes and projects related to political theory that directly support the Party’s leadership activities.

The council is also tasked with carrying out a number of scientific research programmes and projects assigned by the Politburo and the Secretariat through the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics.

In addition, it assists the academy in researching and developing theoretical arguments to counter views that contradict the Party’s policies and guidelines, while strengthening exchanges and cooperation in theoretical research with institutions affiliated with communist and ruling parties around the world.

Nguyen Xuan Thang, a member of the 13th Politburo and chairman of the council for the 2021–2026 term, has been appointed as its chairman.

Speaking at the event, Party General Secretary To Lam acknowledged the significant role of the Central Theoretical Council, particularly in developing the Party’s theoretical foundations and contributing to the formulation of major Party documents, including those adopted at National Party Congresses.

He noted that the early consolidation and launch of the council for the new term following the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam demonstrates the Party’s proactive approach to ensuring that theoretical work accompanies the implementation of major national tasks.

According to the Party chief, the new-term council features several important innovations, including the participation of leading theorists, scientists, experts and experienced leaders and managers.

The combination of experienced scholars and younger researchers reflects a spirit of continuity and development, ensuring stability while fostering innovation in the council’s work, he said.

The council is expected to serve as a centre for intellectual exchange among theorists and experts and act as a strategic research and advisory body on key issues concerning the country’s development.

The Party leader urged the council to continue strengthening its role as the core body for the Party’s theoretical work in the country’s new development era.

He again emphasised that theoretical research plays a particularly important role in shaping the Party’s ideological foundation and strategic vision, guiding policy direction and development pathways for the nation in each stage of its growth.

“The council must further promote its advisory role to the Party, particularly the Politburo and the Secretariat, in reviewing and deciding major strategies and development orientations for the country,” the top leader said.
