Party General Secretary To Lam pays tribute to fallen heroes in Dien Bien
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam on July 27 offered incense and flowers in remembrance of fallen heroes and martyrs at the Martyrs’ Memorial and the A1 National Martyrs' Cemetery, as part of his ongoing working trip to Dien Bien province.
In a solemn atmosphere, the Party General Secretary and other officials expressed their boundless gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh, the great hero of national liberation and world-renowned cultural figure, and remembered General Vo Nguyen Giap, the revered elder brother of the Vietnam People’s Army, along with soldiers, youth volunteers, frontline workers, and the people across the country who bravely fought and sacrificed for the glorious victory in Dien Bien Phu more than 70 years ago.
The Dien Bien Phu Victory over French colonialism on May 7, 1954, marked a golden milestone in Vietnam's history. It was a triumph built on sacrifice and perseverance, a symbol of revolutionary heroism, and a continuation of Vietnam’s thousand-year legacy of fighting for independence and sovereignty. Thousands of young Vietnamese people gave their youth and lives for the cause of national freedom, leading to the ultimate victory.
The Martyrs’ Memorial, located on Hill F, is part of the Special National Historic Site of the Dien Bien Phu battlefield. This monument boasts a unique architectural design, harmoniously blending elements of history, culture, landscape, and spiritual tradition. It stands as a dignified tribute to the historic victory and the immense sacrifices of fallen soldiers and compatriots nationwide. The site also serves as a vital location for educating future generations on the patriotic traditions of the Vietnamese people. It is a sacred destination for citizens and tourists on their journey through the historic land of Dien Bien Phu.
At the A1 National Martyrs’ Cemetery, General Secretary To Lam wrote in the memorial book, expressing his deep emotions and appreciation for the blood and sacrifices of heroes, martyrs, and the people, which laid the foundation for the victory at Dien Bien Phu and opened a new, heroic chapter in Vietnam’s national history. This victory, together with the liberation of the South and national reunification, as well as the successful defense of national borders, has ensured Vietnam's lasting peace and sovereignty, guiding the nation toward a future of prosperity and happiness.
"We shall forever remember and be grateful to the heroic martyrs," he wrote.
On this occasion, the Party leader visited and presented gifts to 91-year-old Pham Van Ngan, a 41% war invalid, who once served as deputy squad leader during the Hill A1 battle. The leader inquired about his health and living conditions, and wished the veteran good health. He hoped the veteran would continue to inspire younger generations, helping them to uphold the spirit of the “Uncle Ho's soldiers” and the unyielding "Dien Bien warrior spirit” of the past.
