Party and State leaders mourn military general’s passing
VOV.VN - Party and State leaders of Vietnam paid their last respect to General Nguyen Quyet, former Party Central Committee member, former Vice Chairman of the State Council and former Deputy Minister of National Defense during his funeral held in Hanoi on December 27.
Gen. Nguyen Quyet, who was also former Director of the General Political Department of the Vietnam People’s Army, passed away in Hanoi on September 23 due to serious illness at the age of 102.
With more than 65 years of revolutionary service, Gen. Nguyen Quyet made numerous contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 85-year Party Membership Badge, and many other prestigious medals and honors by the Party and the State.
To acknowledge the General’s contributions, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee decided to hold a State funeral in honour of the General.
In the condolence book, Party General Secretary To Lam described Gen. Nguyen Quyet as a steadfast communist, a leader in Vietnam’s revolutionary cause, and a brilliant general of the Vietnam People’s Army.
“He possessed profound enlightenment and a clear understanding of the Party’s revolutionary path, contributing to the leadership of the revolution and the military in achieving one victory after another, bringing glory to the country and his homeland.
“We will continue to build on the revolutionary achievements and steadfastly defend the Fatherland while successfully constructing socialism in the nation,” To Lam wrote.
State President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Defense Minister Phan Van Giang wrote in the condolence book, saying that the passing of the General is a great loss to the Party, State, People, and Army, and that he General’s immense and exceptionally outstanding contributions to the revolutionary cause will endure forever.
