National conference seeks to perfect institutions for cultural development

VOV.VN - A national conference was held on December 17 in Bac Ninh province as part of efforts to explore ways to perfect institutions and improve the efficiency of using resources for cultural development in Vietnam.

Addressing the event, Tran Thanh Man, vice chairman of the National Assembly (NA), noted that the Party and State are aware of the importance of culture and duly pay special attention to the development of Vietnamese culture and people.

He said that the 13th National Party Congress in 2021 outlined major development orientations for the country over the course of the coming decades, with a specific focus on comprehensive human development and the building of an advanced culture imbued with national identity, thereby turning culture into a driving force for national development and defence.

Perfecting institutions and policies, arousing people’s aspirations to develop a prosperous and happy nation, and promoting Vietnamese cultural values and human strength become one of the key tasks and strategic breakthroughs in the current development period, he stressed.

Under the leadership of the Party, with great efforts coming from the whole political system, as well as the strong support and response of the public, Man noted that Vietnam has recorded plenty of great achievements in building and developing culture over the years.

However, he admitted that culture has yet to be thoroughly grasped and not enough attention has been paid to it in comparison with economic affairs. Investment in culture remains inadequate, and its efficiency is not high.

He therefore requested that delegates at the conference discuss and make recommendations to help State management agencies to perfect institutions, mobilise and improve the efficiency of using resources for cultural preservation, and boost development moving forward.

The conference’s organisers will produce a summary report and send it to the Politburo, Party Secretariat, National Assembly, Government, ministries, sectors, and localities as a means of promptly serving the planning and implementation of guidelines and policies related to cultural development, he said.

The conference was organised by the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture and Education, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Bac Ninh province.

As many as 800 delegates attended the one-day event. In addition, Christian Manhart, UNESCO Representative to Vietnam, was also present.
