National Assembly votes on key bills, conducts high-level personnel work

VOV.VN - The National Assembly is scheduled to pass several major bills and carry out procedures related to critical personnel appointments, alongside other important matters, in its ongoing sitting in Hanoi on June 25.

In the morning, lawmakers are to approve the amended Law on Inspection; the Law amending and supplementing a number of articles of the Penal Code; and the Law amending and supplementing certain provisions of the Law on Handling of Administrative Violations.

After announcing the vote counting results, the National Assembly will vote to adopt resolutions regarding organisational and personnel issues within its authority.

Also in the morning, the National Assembly Standing Committee will present a proposal to establish the National Election Council and hold a plenary discussion on the matter.

After adopting the resolution to establish the National Election Council, the Standing Committee will present nominations for the National Assembly to elect the Chairperson of the Council, and propose other personnel matters. The National Assembly will meet in closed session to discuss these proposals within individual delegations.

In the afternoon, the legislature will vote on the list and elect the Chairperson of the National Election Council, along with other key personnel, via secret ballot. Resolutions on the election of the Chairperson and related personnel matters will be passed during the same afternoon session.

Following the election, the newly elected Chairperson of the National Election Council will present a proposal for the National Assembly to approve the list of Vice Chairpersons and members of the Council. The personnel procedures will continue on June 26.

Vietnam has set Sunday, March 15, 2026, as the election day for deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. This date is three months earlier than initially expected that reflects practical requirements following the restructuring of the administrative apparatus and the implementation of a two-tier government model in the country.
