National Assembly debate on Constitutional amendments to be broadcast live

VOV.VN - A debate on Constitutional amendments will be broadcast live on the national radio and television network when the National Assembly holds its mid-year sitting this May and June, said the National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

The debate will be part of the coming ninth session of the National Assembly that is scheduled to meet in Hanoi from May 5 to June 30, Man said at a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee in Hanoi on March 31.

This session which is expected to pass 11 draft laws and give opinions on 16 others covers many important issues related to the economy, society, national defense and security, as well as the construction of the country’s political system, he stated.

According to the top legislator, amendments and supplements to certain provisions of the 2013 Constitution will be considered, along with revisions to related laws to streamline the governmental apparatus in line with Resolution 18 of the Political Bureau.

Emphasizing that the coming session carries a significant workload with historical importance, the chief legislator urged the Government to direct relevant agencies to actively prepare for the session, particularly for the draft laws to be submitted for approval and related resolutions.

He also requested the National Assembly Standing Committee to closely coordinate with the Ethnic Council and other committees of the National Assembly, to swiftly carry out tasks to ensure the quality and success of the session.

Secretary-General of the National Assembly and Chairman of the National Assembly Office Le Quang Tung reported that the legislature will convene in person at the National Assembly building in Hanoi and hold the session in two phases, with the first lasting from May 5 to 28, and the second from June 11 to July 1 morning. It will have a 13-day break between the two phases.

Tung emphasized that preparations have been carried out urgently by relevant agencies to ensure quality, progress, and timely service for the session. Most of the draft laws that were reviewed by the National Assembly in the eighth session and are expected to be passed in the coming session, as well as five other draft laws to be presented at the coming session, have been reviewed by the National Assembly Standing Committee. In addition, ten draft laws have already been reviewed and discussed at the recent conference of full-time National Assembly deputies.
