Key lawmakers agree on establishment of Hue as centrally-run city

VOV.VN - Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee unanimously agreed on the necessity of establishing Hue as a centrally-run city during the 37th session in Hanoi on September 28.

Debating a proposal to establish Hue as a centrally-run city, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that the proposal should focus on key requirements to ensure Hue’s transformation, including ensuring growth, per capita income, budget revenue, and poverty reduction.

The proposal should demonstrate the city’s socio-economic development, ensure national defense and security, and build a pure, strong political system, aiming to enhance the material and spiritual lives of local people, he said.

It should paint a vision of Hue as a bright, green, clean, and beautiful city, highlighting its status as a former imperial city and a tourist destination, he added.

Regarding the restructuring of administrative organs, Man emphasized the need for a streamlined, effective approach that addresses issues of excess personnel and office space. He highlighted the importance of urban quality, socio-economic development structure, and a thorough review of standards, to ensure national defense and security, build a strong political system, and secure a prosperous and happy life for all.

Presenting the scheme, Minister of Home Affairs Pham Thi Thanh Tra stated that the establishment of Hue as a centrally-run city reflects the political will of Thua Thien-Hue province, aiming to create a new development space and momentum not only for Hue but also for the central economic region and the country as a whole.

According to Tra, the establishment of the centrally-run city of Hue will be based on the existing area of 4,947.11 km² and a population of 1,236,393 from Thua Thien-Hue province. Additionally, several districts, towns and wards will be founded, falling under the administration of the new city, following the restructuring of relevant administrative organs.

Overseeing the scheme, Hoang Thanh Tung, chairman of the National Assembly’s Legal Affairs Committee, noted the significant importance of this initiative in the current context, promoting urbanization linked to urban economic development.

The Legal Affairs Committee and relevant agencies expressed their support for the necessity of establishing Hue as a centrally-run city and reorganizing the administrative units at the district and commune levels in Thua Thien-Hue province, stressed Tung.

The Committee requested that the Government and Thua Thien-Hue Province carefully prepare the necessary conditions and develop plans, guidelines, and specific solutions to address issues when Hue is established as a centrally-run city.

The proposal will be submitted to the year-end session of the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
