Intellectuals, scientists, artists urged to shape Vietnam’s development path forward

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has reaffirmed the Party and State’s consistent commitment to supporting intellectuals, scientists, and artists, creating favourable conditions for them to fully develop their talents, creativity, and dedication to the nation.

Speaking at a meeting held in Hanoi on August 6 to honour outstanding representatives of these communities, the Party chief praised their valuable contributions to the country’s development and construction. He underscored that in today’s era of intense global competition and rapid transformation, the role of intellectuals, scientists, and artists is more essential than ever, as they serve as torchbearers, preserving and spreading Vietnamese values, spirit, and cultural identity.

To meet the country’s aspirations for rapid and sustainable development, General Secretary Lam called on these key forces to maximise their intellect, revolutionary spirit, and dedication, especially in priority areas such as science and technology, education and training, healthcare, agriculture, high technology, the digital economy and society, green energy transition, and the circular economy.

He also emphasised the crucial role of this group in preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture in the digital age. Artists, he noted, must act as spiritual warriors, creating works rich in ideological and aesthetic value that resonate with the ethics and soul of the Vietnamese people amid globalisation.

Beyond creative and academic contributions, the Party leader urged intellectuals to actively engage in national policymaking and reform. With a foundation rooted in science, humanism, and patriotism, they are not only researchers and educators, but also contributors to the nation's intellectual and moral foundation, helping to guide Vietnam’s path forward.

He further encouraged them to pass on their knowledge, values, and experiences to the younger generation, not just academically, but in instilling patriotism, compassion, and revolutionary ideals. This, he said, is a meaningful way to ensure the continuation and vitality of Vietnam’s core values.

Expressing confidence in the nation’s intellectual and creative communities, the General Secretary said he believes they will remain a pioneering force in leading Vietnam into a prosperous and self-reliant future.

Representatives of intellectuals, scientists, and artists attending the event highlighted the enduring bond between their communities and the people throughout the country’s history. They emphasised that, in every stage of Vietnam’s revolutionary journey, intellectuals, scientists, and artists have stood side by side with the Party and the people, contributing through their work, creativity, and sacrifices to national liberation, reunification, and ongoing development.

Nearly 40 years into the Đổi Mới (Renewal) process, Vietnam’s intellectual and creative communities has made remarkable contributions across numerous fields. They have played a core and pioneering role in advancing science and technology, as well as shaping and promoting an advanced Vietnamese culture deeply rooted in national identity.

Former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Professor Dang Vu Minh, and renowned poet Huu Thinh both noted that the upcoming celebration of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day is a powerful reminder of the responsibility of intellectuals to live and work in a manner worthy of the Vietnamese nation and its people.

Professor Minh proposed enhancing cultural policy frameworks and increasing investment in cultural development. He stressed the importance of building a socialist culture aligned with President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching that developing socialism requires building socialist people.
