HCM City requested to make a breakthrough in infrastructure development

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on September 23 asked Ho Chi Minh City to prioritize construction and achieve a big breakthrough in shaping a synchronous and modern urban infrastructure system.

At a working session with the executive board of the municipal Party Committee, he requested the city to work alongside localities in the Southeastern region to build a modern public transport system as so as to maximize the economic potential of the city and the region as a whole.

The city needs to address weaknesses in transport infrastructure, devise more radical solutions to environmental problems, respond to climate change and sea level rise and better deal with water supply, water drainage, flood control and waste treatment, said the Party leader.

He praised HCM City for an impressive economic recovery, noting the locality recorded growth of 3.82% in the first six months of this year from contraction last year. He also singled out the city for successfully controlling a COVID-19 outbreak in the second half of last year which he described as ‘unprecedented’ and ‘unpredictable’.

To remove bottlenecks in terms of institutions, infrastructure and human resources, the General Secretary asked the city to accelerate economic restructuring associated with the renewal of the growth model; improve the capacity and quality of institutions, and concretize policies and guidelines suitable to the specific conditions of the city.

With regard to health care, the General Secretary reminded HCM City to enhance the capacity of preventive medicine, solve the overwhelming of hospitals, and pay more attention to the material and spiritual life of healthcare workers to ensure they work with peace of mind.

The Party leader also reminded the city to prevent and repel negative and corrupt manifestations, strictly punish ideologically and morally degraded officials, civil servants and public employees, and timely settle people’s complaints and denunciations.
