HCM City get-together marks Cuba’s Liberation Day

VOV.VN - The Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations hosted a get-together on Jan. 6 to mark the 62nd anniversary of Cuba’s Liberation Day (Jan. 1).

Congratulating Cuba on Liberation Day, Truong Thi Hien, President of the Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that the faithful relationship between Vietnam and Cuba founded by President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam and President Fidel Castro of Cuba has stood the test of time and developed strongly despite many ups and downs during the past more than half a century.

The Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City will work closely with the Consulate General of Cuba in the city to well organize cultural and people-to-people exchanges in 2021, helping to further strengthen the special traditional friendship between the two countries’ people, said Hien.

Cuban Consul General Indira Lopez Arguelles highlighted the major achievements the Government and people of Cuba have made in the cause of national construction, development and defence, and affirmed in any circumstances Cuba will always stand side by side with Vietnam while making every effort to preserve and promote the solidarity and friendship between the two countries.

She assured that the Cuban Consulate General in HCM City will organize friendly exchange activities in 2021 to promote trade and investment cooperation, as well as people-to-people diplomacy between Cuba and Vietnam.

The Cuban Consulate General in HCM City will continue to do its best to become a friendship bridge between the two nations, said Indira Lopez Arguelles.

January 1 was observed as Liberation Day in Cuba after Fidel Castro led an overthrow of the military dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista and established the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere on January 1, 1959.
