Election Council confirms 500 deputies elected to 16th National Assembly
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s National Election Council confirmed that 500 deputies have been elected to the 16th National Assembly, marking the successful conclusion of a nationwide vote described as democratic, transparent, and inclusive.
The announcement was made at the fifth session of the National Election Council on March 21, chaired by Tran Thanh Man, who also serves as Chairman of the Council.
Chairman Man described the March 15 election as a major national event that achieved comprehensive success, ensuring democracy, equality, legality, safety, and efficiency.
He noted that this election was among the largest and most complex ever organised in Vietnam, given the high number of eligible voters and the significant workload completed within a shortened preparation timeline of approximately two months.
Despite these challenges, all procedures were carried out in full compliance with the law, ensuring transparency and fairness, said the top legislator.
The election also marked a significant step forward in digital transformation, with technology applied on a large scale, from voter data management to real-time reporting of results.
At the same time, the implementation of administrative restructuring and a two-tier local government model created new operational requirements, adding complexity to the organisation of the election.
According to the National Election Council, the election recorded the highest voter turnout to date (more than 99%), with no need for re-voting in any constituency.
A total of 500 deputies were elected to the 16th National Assembly, along with full representation in People’s Councils at all levels, meeting all legal and structural requirements.
Of the 500 elected deputies, 214 were nominated by central agencies and organisations, while 286 (56.6%) were elected from local constituencies.
Notably, for the first time, the new National Assembly includes a representative from the Ơ Đu ethnic group, one of the smallest ethnic minorities in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the proportion of female deputies remains high at 30%.
Chairman Man emphasised that voters across the country had responsibly selected qualified candidates with the necessary competence, integrity, and dedication to serve in elected bodies.
Highlighting expectations for the new term, Chairman Man reiterated the guidance of Party General Secretary To Lam, stressing that elected deputies must fulfill their commitments to voters and actively contribute to legislative and governance activities.
They are expected to play a key role in implementing Vietnam’s socio-economic development goals for the 2026–2030 period, including maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation, ensuring social welfare, and achieving high growth targets.
At the meeting, the National Election Council agreed to finalise reports on the election results, ensuring they are concise, focused, and reflective of key lessons learned for future elections.
Relevant bodies will continue reviewing post-election procedures, including verifying the eligibility of elected deputies in accordance with legal regulations.
Preparations are also underway for a national conference to review the election, scheduled for March 31.
