Defence Minister calls for stronger measures to counter hostile forces
VOV.VN - Defence Minister Phan Van Giang has called on the General Political Department to implement comprehensive measures to prevent and defeat hostile plots and activities, while ensuring absolute security for major national and military political events.
Giang, a Politburo member and deputy secretary of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks at a meeting on March 10 reviewing the implementation of key tasks by the department in 2026.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening political and ideological work across the armed forces to ensure unity in awareness and action among officers and soldiers.
According to a report presented at the meeting, in 2025 and the early months of 2026 the General Political Department directed the military to effectively carry out political education and ideological guidance, focusing on new and breakthrough policies and decisions of the Party and State as well as instructions from Party General Secretary To Lam, who also serves as secretary of the Central Military Commission.
The department also helped organise major national commemorations, including activities marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, creating positive social impact.
It also advised on personnel arrangements for military representatives in the 14th Party Central Committee and candidates for the 16th National Assembly and local People’s Councils for the 2026–2031 term. It reviewed and improved regulations related to military personnel management.
The department continued to implement measures to safeguard internal political security and coordinated efforts to detect and remove thousands of online links containing harmful and anti-state content.
Mass mobilisation activities, social policies and programmes supporting policy beneficiaries were also expanded, including initiatives to build gratitude houses and support campaigns aimed at eliminating temporary and dilapidated housing.
Concluding the meeting, Defence Minister Giang acknowledged the efforts and determination of officers and soldiers across the armed forces, noting that the General Political Department plays an important advisory role in helping the Central Military Commission maintain the Party’s ideological foundation within the military.
He urged the department to continue closely implementing Party resolutions and directives, while proactively researching, forecasting and advising the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Central Military Commission on policies to build a politically strong military.
Giang also called for stronger monitoring and management of internal political security and thorough review of political standards for personnel.
The General Political Department was urged to step up coordinated measures to counter hostile forces and ensure absolute safety and security for important national and military events.
In addition, the Defence Minister asked the department to continue improving policies for military personnel and their families, enhance efforts to locate and identify the remains of fallen soldiers, and further innovate Party and political work in key tasks such as combat readiness, building a modern military, developing the defence industry and strengthening discipline.
