Communist Party of Vietnam to hold national congress from Jan. 19-25, 2026
VOV.VN - The 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam is expected to take place in Hanoi over seven days, starting January 19, 2026, according to the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education and Mass Mobilisation.
The Congress will discuss and approve four key documents, including: the Political Report; the Review Report on Theoretical and Practical Issues over 40 Years of Renewal; the Summary Report on 15 Years of Implementation of the Party Statutes; and the Self-Review Report of the 13th Party Central Committee’s leadership and direction.
The Congress will also consider and adopt the Personnel Report for the 14th Party Central Committee before conducting elections.
At the 13th Plenum of the 13th Central Committee held in Hanoi in early October, the Committee discussed and gave opinions on the draft Working Regulations and draft Election Regulations for the 14th Congress, ensuring consistency with the Party Statutes and current regulations. The drafts were revised and supplemented to prevent, detect, and strictly handle violations that may arise during the Congress.
The meeting also conducted voting to introduce candidates for the 14th Party Central Committee and the 14th Central Inspection Commission.
Personnel work was identified as a “particularly crucial task” and “the key of all keys”, carried out based on standards, qualifications, structure, and orientations approved by the Central Committee, under the direct leadership of the Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, the Personnel Subcommittee, and the General Secretary, head of the 14th Congress Personnel Subcommittee.
The personnel plan is linked with the arrangement and nomination of leaders of Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, and local agencies for the 2026–2031 term.
The draft documents submitted to the 14th Congress were assessed by the Party Central Committee as comprehensive and carefully prepared, having been revised multiple times through the 11th and 12th Plenums, reflecting a frank and objective assessment of the current situation, and clearly defining development viewpoints, goals, and breakthrough solutions for the new period. The documents express the aspiration for rapid and sustainable national development, aiming to propel the country forward in the new era.
The 13th Plenum also set the socio-economic development goals for 2026, prioritising economic growth based on macroeconomic stability, inflation control, maintenance of major economic balances, and public debt safety. The Party Central Committee emphasised the need to improve institutions, remove bottlenecks, unlock resources, promptly stabilise the organisational apparatus, build a streamlined and effective administration, and develop a new growth model.
