Chu Ngoc Anh elected as Hanoi Mayor

VOV.VN - Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi’s Party Committee Chu Ngoc Anh has been officially elected as the Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee for the 15th municipal People’s Council in the 2016 to 2021 tenure.

The election took place in Hanoi on September 25 during the municipal People’s Council’s 16th session for the 2016 to 2021 tenure.

The 16th session is being held with the aim of dismissing former incumbent Nguyen Duc Chung from his position as Hanoi Mayor and appointing new personnel to the post of Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee for the 2016 to 2021 tenure.

During her opening speech at the session, Chairwoman of the Hanoi People’s Council Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc underlined the importance of electing a competent individual to the position of Hanoi Mayor in order to fulfill the capital’s political duties and make significant contributions to the northern city’s overall development moving forward.

The session witnessed delegates unanimously agree to the resolution to dismiss Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Duc Chung from his current position.

Following this, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi’s Party Committee Chu Ngoc Anh was elected to the role of Chairman of the municipal People's Committee after receiving nearly 100% approval.

At present, Chu Ngoc Anh holds the position of Minister of Science and Technology, while Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is expected to submit proposals to the National Assembly for approval to dismiss him from the post of Minister of Science and Technology in November.
