Central Highlands requires special development mechanisms

VOV.VN - With its strategic position in terms of politics, economics, social affairs, defence and security in Vietnam, the Central Highlands needs special mechanisms for its future stability and development, leaders of Central Highlands provinces said at a conference on in Buon Ma Thuot city August 2.

They pointed out that although the region boasts many advantages in developing agriculture and forestry associated with agricultural and forestry product processing, renewable energy, bauxite mining and processing, and tourism, it still lags behind other regions in development.

They then proposed that the region enjoy a priority policy on resources and investment in socio-economic infrastructure, while also having specific policies to attract strategic investors into potential areas and encourage artisans to contribute to preserving and promoting national cultural heritage.

They stressed the need for the region to implement appropriate policies to address the lack of residential land, production land, and jobs for ethnic minorities; better forest management, protection, and development linked to local livelihood; and remove difficulties in the planning work as a means of unlocking resources for development.

Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang agreed with local authorities that the region should come up with special development mechanisms and policies as it plays a particularly important strategic role and position in the country.

Localities in the region should pay special attention to ethnic affairs, the implementation of ethnic policies, and the training of officials working on ethnic affairs, he said.

The whole region should also have flexible mechanisms to avoid conflicts, while the planning work should be done carefully in order to create space for further development, he suggested.

The Deputy Prime Minister also reminded the Central Highlands provinces to pay close attention to human resource development, forest management and protection, and the settlement of free migration.

The conference was held to gather local opinions regarding the development and stability of the Central Highlands region in order to complete reports to the coming 14th National Party Congress in early 2026.

The Central Highlands region comprises five provinces - Lam Dong, Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak, and Dak Nong. It is home to large numbers of ethnic minority groups such as the Xo Dang, Ba Na, Gie Trieng, K’Ho, Mnong, E De, Gia Rai, Ra Glai, and Chu Ru.
