Vietnam’s BRICS Summit engagement affirms its role in addressing global development issues

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s participation in the expanded BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on October 23-24 continues to affirm Vietnam’s position, role, and stature in addressing global development issues, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

The participation of the head of the Vietnamese Government in the summit strongly reaffirms Vietnam’s proactive, positive, and responsible role in addressing common issues facing humanity, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang told local media agencies ahead of the PM’s working trip to Russia.

Alongside its active contributions at the United Nations, ASEAN, APEC, G7, G20, and various global economic cooperation and integration initiatives, Hang noted that participating in the BRICS summit demonstrates Vietnam’s commitment and responsibility to work together with other countries in the international community to promote multilateralism and international solidarity, and emphasize the rule of law, while amplifying the voices of developing countries in efforts to foster peace and enhance cooperation and development globally.

Vietnam’s participation in discussions with major economies and emerging markets on pressing global issues conveys an image of a peaceful, cooperative, and dynamic Vietnam that is committed to fostering an independent and self-reliant economy while integrating effectively and deeply into the international community, leveraging external resources for national development, said Hang.

The BRICS summit is scheduled to be attended by leaders from BRICS member countries and more than 30 invited countries, including developing countries from various continents, and some international organizations.

The event takes place against a backdrop of ongoing complex global economic and political fluctuations. While the global economy shows signs of improvement, it continues to face numerous challenges, particularly the risk of declining growth, prolonged high inflation, supply chain disruptions, climate change, and both traditional and non-traditional global security threats, all of which significantly impact the efforts for economic recovery and sustainable development in various countries.

In addition, emerging trends of the era, especially digital transformation, green transition, and the rapid development of technology and artificial intelligence, are opening up new prospects for development and cooperation among emerging economies, including Vietnam.

Themed “BRICS and the Global South: Building a Better World Together,” the gathering will see the leaders to examine solutions to promote economic growth, strengthen economic connectivity between BRICS and Global South countries, and enhance cooperation in responding to global challenges.

The leaders will also discuss ways to accelerate new growth drivers such as the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, science and technology, and innovation, as well as the establishment of a balanced, effective, and inclusive global governance ecosystem that amplifies the role and voice of developing countries.

According to Hang, this is also Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s first working visit to Russia, taking place at a time when the two countries will celebrate 75 years of their diplomacy in 2025.

Alongside recent high-level exchanges, this working trip reaffirms the enduring friendship between Vietnam and Russia, creating momentum for bilateral cooperation and opening up practical and effective opportunities that match the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides.

For the participating countries, the summit also presents an important opportunity for Vietnam to enhance bilateral relations across various fields and strengthen coordination at multilateral forums, said the diplomat.
