Vietnamese Prime Minister to visit China, attend Summer Davos Forum

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will pay an official visit to China and attend the 14th annual meeting of the New Champions known as the Summer Davos Forum in Tianjin from June 25 to 28, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The trip has been made at the invitations of Chinese Premier Li Qiang and World Economic Forum (WEF) president Klaus Schwab, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press communique released on June 21.

China was the first country to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam on January 18, 1950. This year the two countries are celebrating 15 years of their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

China is Vietnam’s largest trading partner while Vietnam is China’s largest partner in ASEAN. Two-way trade turnover between the two countries hit US$175.6 billion last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

As of March 2023, China had poured US$23.85 billion into 3,651 projects in Vietnam, ranking sixth among foreign investors in the country.

The WEF is one of the prestigious global forums, drawing the attention and participation of leaders of countries, international organizations as well as leading corporations in the world. Vietnam and the WEF have established cooperative relations since 1989. The WEF has invited Vietnam to attend its annual meetings in Davos, Switzerland, and WEF conferences on East Asia.

In November 2022, PM Pham Minh Chinh met WEF President Klaus Schwab on the sidelines of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits in Cambodia.

Chinh expressed his hope that the WEF would help diversify markets for Vietnamese goods and improve its position in regional and global supply chains.

Schwab vowed to increase cooperation with Vietnam, including implementing cooperation projects on the centre for the fourth industrial revolution, digital skills training, and green transformation, among others.
