Vietnamese Prime Minister begins Romania visit
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Bucharest on January 20 afternoon (local time), beginning an official visit to Romania at the invitation of Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu.
During the January 20-22 visit, the Vietnamese Prime Minister is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Ciolacu, and meet with President Klaus-Werner Iohannis and other senior officials of Romania.
He will also attend a joint Vietnam - Romania business forum and visit research institutes and universities, among other activities.
Vietnam and Romania established diplomatic ties on February 3, 1950. From 1950 to 1989, Romania provided aid and loans to Vietnam to develop a number of economic sectors. After Romania changed its political regime in December 1989, the two countries continued to maintain the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation.
Since 1990, Vietnam and Romania have signed many documents, creating a legal framework for cooperation in the new period.
Two-way trade turnover between Vietnam and Romania has grown continuously over the years, from more than US$200 million in 2018 to more than US$400 million in 2022.
Vietnam exports to Romania coffee, seafood, pepper, textiles, leather shoes, and computer components, and imports from the EU member state chemicals, fertilizers, construction iron and steel, plastic beads, oil and gas drilling equipment, and wood products.
Since 2010, Romania has been classified as Vietnam’s largest seafood export market, consuming about 12,000 tonnes per year.
By the end of 2022, Romania had five valid investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of US$1.56 million, ranking 42nd out of 143 countries and territories investing in the country.
