Vietnamese President attends V-Day Anniversary to promote peace and cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnamese President Luong Cuong’s participation in the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the World Anti-Fascist War in Beijing, China, from September 2-4 conveys Vietnam’s message of peace, cooperation, and development to international friends, according to Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh.

Binh, in an interview granted to the media ahead of President Cuong’s departure at the invitation of Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping, noted that Vietnam, having endured long and arduous struggles for independence, understands better than most the value of freedom and peace. The Vietnamese people deeply empathize with the losses and honor the great sacrifices made by nations around the world in the fight against fascism, oppression, and exploitation. The President’s presence at the commemoration, he said, reflects Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, and active, responsible contribution to global peace and prosperity.
The Ambassador stressed that the visit coincides with Vietnam’s own celebrations of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, creating a powerful resonance between national pride and international engagement. These parallel milestones send a strong message of Vietnam’s aspirations and determination to safeguard peace, promote cooperation, and contribute to shared prosperity in the new era.
For bilateral relations, the event also highlights the traditional friendship of being “both comrades and brothers” between Vietnam and China. At the same time, Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, is leading a delegation to Vietnam to attend celebrations of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. This mutual exchange, coupled with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s ongoing visit to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Tianjin, marks the first time in history that three high-level visits between the two countries take place almost simultaneously. According to the Ambassador, this represents a new peak in high-level exchanges, of special significance in the year marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the Year of Vietnam–China Humanistic Exchange.
Beyond attending the commemorative ceremony in Beijing, President Luong Cuong is expected to hold talks and meetings with leaders of China as well as with participating heads of state and international organisations. These exchanges offer Vietnam valuable opportunities to strengthen political trust, deepen economic partnerships, and promote the image of a dynamic and resilient Vietnam after 80 years of nationhood.
Ambassador Binh affirmed that this first official trip of President Luong Cuong to China in his capacity as Head of State will help create new momentum for Vietnam–China relations. It not only demonstrates Vietnam’s special regard for the friendly neighbourly relationship and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China but also reaffirms Vietnam’s consistent determination to uphold humanity’s values of peace, foster mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote sustainable development.
This is also an affirmation of the will, strength, and aspiration of the Vietnamese people to rise in the new era, the Ambassador stressed.
Speaking about bilateral relations, the Ambassador stated that the trip reflects the importance both countries attach to further promoting and deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and to building a Vietnam–China Community with a Shared Future of strategic significance. It takes place just four months after the successful State visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping in April this year.
During talks in Beijing, the two sides are expected to outline major orientations for implementing shared understandings between top Party and State leaders. Discussions will focus on strengthening political trust, managing differences constructively, expanding economic cooperation, and opening new avenues for collaboration in culture, tourism, education, and youth exchanges. Initiatives such as the “Red Journey” for Vietnamese and Chinese youth are designed to deepen mutual understanding and nurture the traditional solidarity of being “both comrades and brothers.”
According to Ambassador Binh, the visit will help elevate Vietnam–China relations to new heights, driving the building of a strategic Community of Shared Future under the guiding principle of “six greater commitments”: higher political trust, more substantive defence and security cooperation, deeper and more practical cooperation, stronger social foundation, closer multilateral coordination, and better control and resolution of differences. Together, these efforts will sustain peace and stability, create favourable conditions for development in each country, and contribute positively to regional and global prosperity.
