Vietnamese PM warmly welcomed in Hungary on official visit

VOV.VN - Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban on January 18 hosted a welcoming ceremony for Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh who arrived in Budapest on the same day for an official visit to the European state.

After the welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh laid flowers at Heroes’ Square in Budapest where many important political events in Hungary take place.

The two PMs then held talks on measures to strengthen cooperation between Vietnam and Hungary.

Chinh’s visit takes place at a time when relations between Vietnam and Hungary have developed positively over the past more than seven decades.

During the Hungary visit in 2018 by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the two countries upgraded their ties to a comprehensive partnership, making Hungary the first comprehensive partner of Vietnam in Central Eastern Europe.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Hungary has grown rapidly, hitting more than US$1 billion in 2020, making Vietnam one of Hungary’s largest trading partners in Southeast Asia.

Hungary is the largest provider of official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam in Central Eastern Europe.

Chinh’s visit is expected to help further deepen the Vietnam-Hungary Comprehensive Partnership, especially in economy, education-training, and pharmaceutical technology.

Hungary is scheduled to take on the rotating Presidency of the European Union for the last six months of 2024. Therefore, Chinh’s visit is also an opportunity for Vietnam to strengthen relations with the EU on regional and global issues, including promoting the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

During the visit, the two sides are expected to sign a number of cooperation documents in the fields of security, diplomacy, culture and health care.
