Vietnamese PM addresses World Bio Summit 2022

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh virtually delivered a speech at the World Bio Summit themed ‘the future of vaccines and bio-health’ that is getting underway in the Republic of Korea on October 25-26.

In his message to the summit, Chinh affirmed that the COVID-19 pandemic has severely and comprehensively impacted all countries, and that vaccines apparently play a crucial role in this fight.

He shared Vietnam’s experience in pandemic control, saying it has taken measures to prevent and control the pandemic with a global approach, while strengthening international solidarity and upholding multilateralism.

According to the PM, Vietnam has successfully implemented vaccine diplomacy and the largest free vaccination campaign ever. Thanks those efforts, the pandemic has been basically brought under control, creating a firm foundation for socio-economic development and recovery.

He was happy to announce that the past nine months of the year saw the country’s macro-economy basically stabilized, inflation controlled at 2.73%, and particularly GDP expand by 8.83%, the highest since 2011.

The PM thanked international friends, including the Republic of Korea, for supporting the COVID-19 fight domestically by providing vaccines, equipment, and medical products to Vietnam during the height of the fight.

The recent COVID-19 crisis shows the importance of promoting research and development of vaccines and biomedical technologies to contribute to health care and to protect the lives of people, as well as to improve the capacity to respond to diseases that may break out unexpectedly and develop in a complex manner in future, he said.

The Vietnamese leader called on countries to strengthen cooperation and share resources in vaccine research and production, in order to build an advanced biomedical industry and develop modern medicine to effectively respond to diseases.

He stressed the need to ensure a fair and just approach to vaccines and products to care for and protect people’s health globally.

The government leader briefed the summit on Vietnam’s efforts in developing the biomedical industry, including vaccine research and protection over the years, and hoped to receive assistance from partners, including the RoK.

Vietnam is committed to cooperating closely and effectively with other countries and organisations in research, production and technology transfer, contributing to stabilizing the global supply chain of vaccines and biomedical products, he emphasized.
