Vietnamese peacekeeper sacrifices in Central African Republic
VOV.VN - The Ministry of National Defence on January 19 will hold a memorial service for a Vietnamese officer who died during his United Nations peacekeeping mission in Africa.
Major Colonel Trung Anh, an officer of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department under the Ministry of Defence, served as a military observer officer at the Central African Republic mission.
He died on January 6, 2022, at level-three field hospital of the United Nations in Uganda at the age of 38.
The Ministry of Defence posthumously promoted him to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. The ministry also proposed that the State President consider and posthumously confer the Third-class Fatherland Defense Order on him.
The United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in collaboration with the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam held an online memorial service for the Vietnamese martyr on January 8.
Lieutenant Colonel Do Anh’s coffin was brought back to Vietnam on January 15 evening by military aircraft. The Vietnam Peacekeeping Department held a ceremony to receive the coffin at Noi Bai airport.
