Vietnamese leaders appreciate King Sihamoni’s visit as milestone in bilateral relations
VOV.VN - Senior Vietnamese leaders, including Party General Secretary To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, all highly appreciated Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni’s visit to Vietnam as a major milestone, helping to fortify the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries.
Meeting with the King in Hanoi on November 28, To Lam noted that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship has endured numerous challenges throughout each country’s struggle for national liberation and continues to thrive in their current efforts to build and develop their countries.
Both countries must uphold the precious traditions cultivated by the late President Ho Chi Minh, the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, and generations of leaders from both sides to build on this legacy for the sake of their national development and prosperity, he stressed.
He also affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always highly value and prioritize building and fostering the continually flourishing relationship between the two countries.
The Cambodian King for his part expressed deep gratitude for the significant, valuable, timely, and effective support and assistance that Vietnam has provided to Cambodia during its struggle for national independence, protection of sovereignty, and liberation from the genocidal regime in the past, as well as in its current national construction efforts. He affirmed the strong desire and determination of Cambodian leaders and people to continue nurturing and preserving the relationship between the two countries.
Meeting with the King on the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh especially congratulated Cambodia on the successful organization of two recent international conferences – the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP 12) and the 11th Plenary Session of the International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP 11), contributing to enhancing Cambodia's role and position in the region and on the global stage.
Vietnam is ready to support and share its experience with Cambodia to ensure its successful organization of the 20th Francophonie Summit in 2026, he said.
King Sihamoni praised Vietnam’s recent development achievements as a great source of encouragement and inspiration for Cambodia in its efforts to build and develop the nation.
The King affirmed that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship is one of brotherhood and long-standing friendship with historical significance. He pledged to further support cooperation between the governments of the two countries, and expressed confidence that the Vietnam-Cambodia relationship will continue to thrive in future.
Both sides were pleased to see that the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia has been continuously strengthened and developed in recent times, from politics-diplomacy, security-defense, to trade-investment, culture, education-training and people-to-people exchanges.
Chinh proposed that the King along with other senior leaders of Cambodia, work to address difficulties and obstacles, and facilitate the naturalization for people of Vietnamese origin to live and work legally and stably in the country.
Welcoming the King’s visit at another meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said he personally, along with the National Assembly of Vietnam, would make every effort to work closely with the Senate and the National Assembly of Cambodia to further enhance cooperation between the two countries.
He expressed his hope that in his esteemed position, the King would continue to nurture the strong relationship between the two countries. He also emphasized the importance of supporting widespread dissemination and education to help the younger generations in both countries deeply understand the close bond and solidarity between the two peoples, especially in the current context.
King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia arrived in Hanoi on November 28, beginning a two-day State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Luong Cuong.
