Vietnamese leader To Lam ends official visit to France
VOV.VN - General Secretary and President To Lam of Vietnam left Paris, France, on October 7 for Hanoi, successfully concluding activities within the 19th Francophonie Summit and his official visit to France from October 3 to 7 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
He attended and delivered speeches at sessions and forums of the summit, met with a group of distinguished Vietnamese intellectuals from various Francophone countries, and engaged with staff from the embassy and other agencies in France, as well as the Vietnamese community in France.
He also held meetings with several leaders from various countries, international organizations, and foreign businesses.
At the closing session of the 19th Francophonie Summit, the heads of state and government from Francophone member countries unanimously approved several important documents, including the Villers-Cotterêts Joint Declaration, a resolution on the political situation and the strengthening of peace within the Francophone space, and a statement of solidarity with Lebanon.
The summit also agreed to accept Ghana and Cyprus as official members, increasing the number of La Francophonie members to 93, and admitted Angola, Chile, the region of Nova Scotia (Canada), French Polynesia, and the Saar region (Germany) as observers.
Additionally, the summit decided to hold the 46th Francophone Ministerial Conference in Côte d'Ivoire in 2025 and the 20th Francophonie Summit in Cambodia in 2026.
While staying in Paris, General Secretary and President To Lam held talks with President Emmanuel Macron, and met with the President of the French Senate, the National Secretary of the French Communist Party, and the leadership of the France-Vietnam Friendship Association.
Both sides agreed to upgrade Vietnam – France relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership. France becomes the first EU member state to have a comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam.
To Lam also visited the headquarters of UNESCO where he met with its Director-General.
The Vietnamese leader and his entourage laid a floral tribute in memory of President Ho Chi Minh in Montreuil, attended the inauguration of a memorial plaque named after President Ho Chi Minh, and met with the Mayor of Le Havre.
