Vietnamese leader rings opening bell at India’s National Stock Exchange
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of Vietnam To Lam on May 7 visited the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) in Mumbai as part of his ongoing state visit to India.
Welcoming the delegation, NSE Chairman Srinivas Injeti noted that the Vietnamese leader’s decision to visit India, particularly Mumbai, to engage with the financial community reflected the growing importance of Vietnam–India relations.
According to Injeti, both Vietnam and India are among the world’s fastest-growing economies, with young and dynamic populations and capital markets playing a central role in their development strategies. He expressed confidence that Vietnamese enterprises would attract strong interest from Indian investors.
Bilateral trade between Vietnam and India has now exceeded US$16 billion and continues to grow steadily. However, Injeti stressed that the next phase of the partnership would be driven not only by trade but also by investment flows and capital market cooperation.
The NSE chairman said the National Stock Exchange of India is currently the world’s largest derivatives exchange by trading volume, with a total market capitalisation of around US$5 trillion and more than 130 million investors.
He noted that 2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam–India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, expressing hope that the coming decade would see bilateral ties evolve beyond traditional diplomacy into a substantive partnership in markets, capital and business cooperation.
Injeti also affirmed the NSE’s readiness to support Vietnam’s capital market development and welcomed Vietnamese companies seeking opportunities to access investment capital in India.
On the occasion, the NSE chairman invited To Lam to perform the ceremonial opening bell-ringing at the National Stock Exchange of India. The Vietnamese leader also visited several facilities of the NSE.
