Vietnam wishes to enhance cooperation with Burundi
VOV.VN - Vietnam desires to strengthen cooperation with Burundi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye during their meeting in New York on September 22 on the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly.
Chinh thanked the Burundi Government for supporting Vietnamese firms in carrying out cooperation projects, including a telecommunications investment project, in Burundi, contributing to local socio-economic development.
He proposed that the two countries strengthen delegation exchanges and cooperation mechanisms, especially in trade and agricultural cooperation.
President Evariste Ndayishimiye congratulated Vietnam on its important development achievements, considering the Southeast Asian country a model for developing countries to follow suit.
He affirmed that Burundi attaches great importance to developing relations with Vietnam, a potential partner in Southeast Asia. He agreed with Chinh’s proposals on promoting bilateral cooperation, with a primary focus on trade and investment cooperation.
The two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation and support each other at multilateral forums, as well as bridging cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the African Union (AU).
At the meeting, the two leaders discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including the East Sea issue.
Chinh respectfully conveyed President Vo Van Thuong’s invitation to Ndayishimiye to visit Vietnam. The President of Burundi happily accepted the invitation and said he looks forward to visiting Vietnam soon.
