Vietnam willing to share agriculture development experience with Cuba

VOV.VN - Vietnam is willing to share its experience in agriculture development as a pillar of the economy with Cuba, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told his Cuban counterpart Manuel Marreto Cruz during their talks in Hanoi on September 29.

Chinh also announced the Vietnamese Party and State’s decision to donate 5,000 tonnes of rice to Cuban people to help them overcome recent socio-economic difficulties.

Marrero thanked the Party, State, government and people of Vietnam for their solidarity and loyal support for Cuba over the years, especially for their donations to Cuban people following the Matanzas fuel depot blast in August 2022.

The two PMs also exchanged measures to effectively enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of politics - diplomacy, security - defense, trade - investment, health care, education - training, pharmaceuticals manufacturing among others.

They agreed that in the coming time, the two sides will continue to maintain dialogue and exchange of high-level delegations, and improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation through theoretical seminars between the two Communist Parties and the sessions of the Vietnam – Cuba Intergovernmental Committee on economic, scientific and technological cooperation.

The two sides consented to stabilize bilateral trade relations, create favourable conditions for their firms to do business and make investments in the fields of industrial park and tourism infrastructure development, building materials manufacturing, consumer goods, renewable energy, while expanding into other potential areas.

Chinh introduced theoretical and practical issues about socialism and the path to socialism in Vietnam, as well as its endeavour to build an independent and self-reliant economy closely linked to deep international integration while actively addressing global economic challenges.

Exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides agreed to continue to consult, closely coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums. They shared a stance in favor of settling disputes by peaceful means on the basis of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.

The Cuban side affirmed it attaches importance to ASEAN’s central role and wishes to strengthen ties with the bloc, as evidenced by its joining the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia.

The Vietnamese side reaffirmed its consistent position of demanding westerners unilaterally lift their economic and financial embargoes against Cuba.

PM Marrero invited PM Chinh to visit Cuba at an appropriate time, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.

After the talks, Vietnam and Cuba signed three cooperation documents on the 2023-2025 economic agenda, agricultural cooperation and healthcare cooperation.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marreto Cruz.
