Vietnam views India as a leading strategic comprehensive partner

VOV.VN - Vietnam considers India one of its leading comprehensive strategic partners in the region, Party General Secretary To Lam told Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Sandeep Arya during a reception in Hanoi on August 6.

The Party leader emphasised that Vietnam cherishes the traditional friendship nurtured by generations of leaders and people of both countries, and expressed appreciation for India’s valuable support during Vietnam’s struggle for national independence in the past as well as in national development and international integration at present.

He acknowledged the positive and effective development of bilateral relations across various fields, considering this a solid foundation for further deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in a practical and effective manner, maximising the potential and advantages of both countries.

He proposed that Ambassador Arya continue to promote bilateral cooperation, especially through high-level exchanges, effective implementation of agreements reached at the highest level, strengthened defence and security collaboration, and enhanced economic connectivity.

He also called for efforts to increase bilateral trade to US$20 billion and double two-way investment, while expanding cooperation into science and technology, innovation, culture, education, religion, and tourism, in order to meet the development goals of both countries and contribute to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world.

Marking the 79th anniversary of India’s Independence Day (August 15, 1947 – 2025), General Secretary To Lam extended his warm congratulations to the Indian people and commended India’s remarkable achievements, particularly in socio-economic development, science and technology, and in enhancing its global and regional standing.

He also extended his greetings to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and invited the Indian leaders to visit Vietnam at a mutually convenient time.

For his part, Ambassador Arya congratulated Vietnam and its recent socio-economic development achievements on its 80th National Day. He praised the visionary leadership and determination of the Communist Party and State of Vietnam in driving reforms and leading the country into a new era of development.

He expressed confidence that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam would successfully achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation by 2045.

The diplomat reported on the positive progress in multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and said both sides are actively working to implement high-level agreements and the Action Programme for the 2024–2028 period under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He emphasised India’s strengths in areas such as science and technology, information technology, and artificial intelligence, and showed its readiness to share experience and deepen cooperation with Vietnam to jointly pursue development goals in the new era.

India considers Vietnam one of its most important partners in the region, the ambassador told his host.

Agreeing with the leader’s proposals, he confirmed his commitment to working closely with Vietnamese ministries, sectors, and localities to further deepen cooperation in key areas such as defence, security, economy, trade, investment, science and technology, people-to-people exchanges, education, training, and tourism, thereby advancing bilateral relations in a comprehensive and substantive manner, in line with the potential and strong political trust between the two countries.
