Vietnam Vice President attends Philippine presidential swearing-in ceremony

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan on June 30 joined senior officials of countries at the inauguration of Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., president of the Philippines for the 2022-2028 term.

Marcos Jr. won a landslide victory in the 2022 presidential election, becoming the 17th head of State of the Philippines.  

After the ceremony, Marcos Jr. had a meeting with heads of delegations of countries and representatives of international organizations. He affirmed that the new Philippine Government desires to strengthen friendship and cooperation with other countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the rest of the world.

Earlier, Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan had a meeting with newly elected Vice President of the Philippines Sara Duterte.

Xuan expressed hope that the new cabinet would continue to make a positive contribution to national development and construction, to turn the Philippines into a peaceful and prosperous nation, and to continue to assert its increasing role and position in the world.

Duterte congratulated Vietnam on recent achievements, especially in COVID-19 control and economic recovery, and said the Philippines has learned a lot from Vietnam’s experience in COVID-19 prevention and control.

Both host and guest agreed that Vietnam and the Philippines will promote the exchange of delegations at all levels and soon resume bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially in economy, trade, investment, education-training, culture, and people-to-people diplomacy.

They agreed to further maintain exchanges and coordination in order to ensure a peaceful, stable and cooperative environment in the East Sea.

Xuan suggested that the Philippines continue to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese citizens to live and study in their host country.

She also sincerely invited her host to pay an official visit to Vietnam soon.
