Vietnam values traditional relationship with DR Congo
VOV.VN - Vietnam attaches importance to its longstanding friendship and relationship with the Democratic Republic of Congo, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man told Speaker of the DR Congo National Assembly Vital Kamerhe during a meeting in Can Tho city on January 22.
Meeting with the distinguished guest on the sidelines of the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF) Executive Committee meeting, Man spoke highly of the DR Congo’s significant economic development and political stability efforts, which have elevated the country’s standing in the region.
He highlighted that parliamentary cooperation serves as an essential channel in the broader, positive relationship between the two countries, both bilaterally and multilaterally. He expressed a desire to enhance parliamentary ties, focusing on high-level exchanges between the two parliamentary leaders, as well as between the specialized agencies of their parliaments.
Both sides should intensify inter-parliamentary exchanges and strengthen collaboration at international and regional parliamentary forums such as the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) and the Francophone Parliamentary Assembly (APF) among others, he suggested.
Kamerhe for his part praised Vietnam’s socio-economic development, calling it a shining example of economic growth in the region and globally. He noted that the potential for cooperation between Vietnam and the DR Congo remains vast and his country would like to learn about Vietnam’s experiences in agriculture, agricultural product processing, and energy development.
He stressed that the parliaments of the two countries play an important role in fostering such cooperation areas.
On this occasion, Kamerhe conveyed greetings and best wishes from the President of the DR Congo to Vietnam’s top leaders. He extended a heartfelt invitation to Man to visit Congo to promote substantial and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries, including in agriculture.
During the meeting, both sides agreed to establish a parliamentary friendship group between their parliaments in an effort to foster cooperation and continued mutual support at international and regional inter-parliamentary forums.
