Vietnam treasures traditional relations with Cuba: Party leader
VOV.VN - Vietnam attaches great importance to and wishes to further deepen the special friendship and cooperative relations between the two Parties and States of Vietnam and Cuba.
Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made the statement during phone talks late on May 5 with Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and President of the Republic of Cuba.
Trong warmly congratulated the Cuban Communist Party on successfully organizing its eighth National Congress, and Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez on his election as first Secretary by the Party Central Committee.
He expressed his belief that the Communist Party of Cuba, headed by Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez, will continue to lead the Cuban people to overcome all difficulties and challenges, while realizing goals and guidelines set out by the recent Party Congress, in order to build a prosperous and sustainable socialist country.
General Secretary Trong respectfully conveyed his warm regards to Raul Castro, former Secretary of the Party Central Committee, highly appreciating his great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Cuban people as well as the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba.
He affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam always respect and never forget the solidarity and heartfelt support that Cuba has provided for Vietnam during the past struggle for national liberation and the present cause of national construction and defense.
For his part, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez affirmed that General Secretary Trong’s phone call is vivid manifestation of the special friendship, close relationship, and trust between the two Parties and States and Cuba and Vietnam.
The new Cuban leadership will do its best to continue to consolidate and develop the Cuban-Vietnam relationship, founded and nurtured by leader Fidel Castro of Cuba and President Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam, he stressed.
He briefed the Vietnamese leader on the results of the eighth National Party Congress of Cuba and the country’s socio-economic development achievements despite the negative impact of the embargo and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cuban leader congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in recent times and expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Party General Nguyen Phu Trong himself, the Vietnamese people will successfully implement the Resolution adopted at the recent 13th National Party Congress, in order to build a strong and prosperous Vietnamese nation.
Meanwhile, Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong reiterated Vietnam’s unswerving policy of strengthening solidarity with Cuba and opposing embargo and hostility against the Caribbean nation.
Vietnam is willing to share its Doi Moi (Renewal) experience with Cuba, he told the Cuban leader.
Trong suggested that the two sides should continue to coordinate closely to effectively implement bilateral agreements, so as to develop the Vietnam-Cuba relations in a deep, substantial and sustainable manner.
He respectfully invited Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez and Raul Castro to visit Vietnam again.
For his part, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermudez respectfully conveyed Cuban leaders’ invitation to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to visit Cuba again at an appropriate time.
