Vietnam treasures ties with France, says National Assembly leader

VOV.VN - Vietnam always attaches importance to comprehensive partnership and cooperation with the European Union (EU), including France, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue told French Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolas Warnery at a reception on November 16.

Vietnam wishes to receive France’s continued support in promoting stronger and more effective cooperation relations between Vietnam and the EU, he said.

He congratulated Nicolas Warnery on his appointment as French Ambassador to Vietnam, and expressed his belief with his working experience as Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City and knowledge of Vietnam, the diplomat would successfully complete his term, actively contributing to strengthening the Vietnam - France Strategic Partnership as well as the friendship and good cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

For his part, Nicolas Warnery said over the past two years, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Assembly of Vietnam and the French Parliament as well as their Friendship Parliamentary Groups have effectively maintained their exchanges and cooperation activities.

According to the diplomat, the French Embassy and the French Senate are actively preparing for an official visit to Vietnam by Senate President Gérard Larcher at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

Hue said he is looking forward to receiving the French leader during the upcoming visit which he expects would ramp up the strategic partnership between the two countries and legislative bodies.

Vietnam and France will celebrate 50 years of bilateral diplomacy and 10 years of their strategic partnership in 2023.
