Vietnam to get more involved in UN affairs
VOV.VN - Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang on May 10 received Kamal Maholtra, former UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam for the 2017-2021 term.
Maholtra said he was proud to have contributed to deepening the relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and the United Nations over the years. He was honoured to be awarded the Friendship Order and other medals in recognition of his practical contributions to development fields in Vietnam.
The former UN official affirmed that he would be ready to give advice and share experiences to support Vietnam in the coming time, especially in implementing development goals.
Ambassador Giang spoke highly of Maholtra’s practical contributions during his working term in Vietnam in order to promote peace, security, development, and strengthen relations between Vietnam and the United Nations.
The diplomat assured that Vietnam will get more involved in UN affairs, with priority to be given to promoting education, food, climate change response, health care, energy transition, and marine cooperation.
He suggested that Maholtra, with a wealth of experience working in the United Nations agencies, continue to give advice, share experiences and make appropriate recommendations for Vietnam in order to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
