Vietnam seeks Hungary’s support in training workforce for future nuclear power plant

VOV.VN - Vietnam expects Hungary will help train high-quality human resources to operate its nuclear power plant in the future.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh made the request during his reception for visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto in Hanoi on March 19.

Chinh informed his guest about Vietnam’s nuclear power development plan to feed its growing economy in the coming years and expressed his desire for Hungary’s support in training high-quality human resources for nuclear power plant operations.

According to the PM, Hungary has strong expertise in this field, while Vietnam has an urgent need.

Szijjarto for his part said Hungary has over 50 years of experience in operating nuclear power plants using Russian technology. He affirmed that Hungary is ready to cooperate and support Vietnam in training 1,000 experts in nuclear power plant operations, considering this a strategic area of collaboration between the two countries.

During the meeting, Chinh recalled his deep impression of his official visit to Hungary in January 2024 and conveyed an invitation to Hungarian Prime Minister Orban Viktor to visit Vietnam soon.

Vietnam highly values its relationship with Hungary, its first Comprehensive Partner in Central and Eastern Europe, he said.

The PM thanked Hungary, a faithful and longstanding friend, for its valuable support and assistance to Vietnam over the past 75 years. He held that, despite the negative impacts of global and regional uncertainties, trade and investment between the two countries continue to grow positively.

He welcomed the close coordination between both sides in preparing for the 10th session of the Vietnam-Hungary Joint Economic Cooperation Committee, to be held in Hanoi in 2025, after a hiatus since 2019, aiming to boost bilateral trade and investment.

The PM also discussed with his guest measures to promote cooperation in education, mechanical engineering, electronics, tourism, labour, and railway connectivity between Southeast Asia and Central and Eastern Europe.

The Hungarian Foreign Minister said he was impressed by Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements, and affirmed Hungary’s strong desire to further promote its traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, which Hungary considers one of its most important partners in Southeast Asia.

The two sides agreed to review the legal framework for bilateral cooperation and expedite negotiations for agreements on citizen repatriation and labour cooperation.

Regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, both host and guest agreed that Vietnam and Hungary share many similarities in their foreign policies. They emphasized the need to strengthen exchanges and cooperation at multilateral forums, reaffirming that peace, cooperation, and development remain global trends. They also concurred that disputes must be resolved peacefully based on international law in the best interests of all nations.

On this occasion, Chinh urged Hungary, as an EU member, to advocate for the early ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) by the remaining EU countries and to support Vietnam in having the EU’s yellow card warning on its seafood exports lifted soon.

With regard to the Vietnamese community in Hungary, Szijjarto highly appreciated their hard work, intelligence, and successful integration into Hungarian society, noting their positive contributions to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
