Vietnam seeks COVID-19 vaccine support from Russia
VOV.VN - Vietnam hopes Russia will accelerate the transfer of vaccine production technology to help it combat COVID-19, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin during their phone talks on September 16.
Phuc also expressed hope the Russian Federation will continue to provide additional assistance to Vietnam in terms of COVID-19 vaccines, treatment drugs, and medical supplies.
He congratulated Russia on its successful control of the coronavirus outbreak and thanked Russia for strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in COVID-19 prevention over the past time.
For his part, President Putin highly appreciated cooperation between the two countries in COVID-19 prevention and control, and affirmed Russia will continue to support and cooperate closely with Vietnam in bringing the pandemic under control.
The two presidents expressed their delight at the positive results in bilateral cooperation despite the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. To further promote post-pandemic cooperation, the two sides agreed to take measures to further facilitate trade and investment cooperation and accelerate the implementation of important projects in key fields such as energy, oil and gas, as well as defense and security.
Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with the Russian Federation in all fields for mutual benefit, Phuc assured Putin.
Exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides agreed to continue to coordinate closely and effectively at multilateral forums. They also consented that all sea-related disputes in the East Sea should be settled by peaceful means and in line with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
President Phuc stated that Vietnam always welcomes and stays ready to act as a bridge for Russia to expand cooperation with ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region.
He also thanked President Putin, the Government and relevant agencies of Russia for supporting the Vietnamese community in their host country in recent times, especially during the pandemic period.
President Putin invited President Phuc to pay an official visit to Russia soon, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
President Phuc wished that Russia would successfully hold its State Duma (lower house) election this September and he would welcome President Putin for an official visit to Vietnam soon.
