Vietnam, RoK boost cooperation in rural, cooperative development

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on April 3 received Lee Sung-hee, president of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation (NACF) of the Republic of Korea, who is in Hanoi for a working visit to Vietnam.

Khai highly appreciated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance and the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation of the RoK on April 3, saying the MoU would continue to actively contribute to the development of agricultural cooperatives and increase farmers’ income in both countries.

He said to realize its industrialization and modernization strategy, the Party and State of Vietnam always attach great importance to the development of agriculture, farmers and rural areas, considering this an important foundation for sustainable socio-economic development.

According to the Deputy PM, Vietnam has received active support and close cooperation from the RoK Government in the field of agriculture and rural development.

The successful Saemaul Undong (New Village Movement) in the RoK is being replicated in Vietnam through the Happiness Programme implemented by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) in some locations of the country, he revealed.

He expressed his belief, with its rich experience, the NACF will actively coordinate with the Government of Vietnam to support agricultural and rural development, thereby contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.

NACF president Lee Sung-hee noted the signing of the MoU will create the basis for bilateral cooperation in the field of cooperatives, to contribute to promoting the agricultural economy of Vietnam and the RoK in future.

Under the MoU, the two sides will strengthen cooperation activities in various areas such as staff training, improving capacity of agricultural cooperatives and building new-style cooperative models.

In addition, the two sides will collaborate in trading products, goods and equipment for agricultural cooperatives, and exchange experience in developing agricultural cooperatives. They will build and operate the Vietnam - Korea cooperative startup support centre, as well as supporting activities of member units of both alliances.
