Vietnam responds to map display error at SEA Games 33 in Thailand

VOV.VN - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam has confirmed that relevant authorities are actively working with the SEA Games 33 organising committee in Thailand regarding an error in the map of Vietnam displayed during the opening ceremony.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang was speaking at a regular press briefing on December 11, addressing reporters’ question regarding the display of the map without Vietnam’s Paracel and Spratly Islands, as well as Phu Quoc Island, during the SEA Games 33 opening ceremony.

Hang emphasised that Vietnamese authorities have been in discussions with the SEA Games 33 organisers about this significant oversight.

Once again, Vietnam reaffirms its indisputable sovereignty over the Paracel and Spratly Islands in accordance with international law, she stressed.

During the SEA Games 33 opening ceremony in Bangkok on December 10, the organisers showed a map of Vietnam that failed to include the Paracel and Spratly Islands, along with Phu Quoc Island.

In addition, the organisers mistakenly displayed the flag of Indonesia as Singapore’s while showcasing the flags of previous SEA Games hosts on a large screen.
