Vietnam rejects US religious freedom commission report

VOV.VN - Vietnam has strongly rejected unobjective assessments of the country in the 2026 Annual Report of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF), Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said at a regular press briefing on March 19.

The spokesperson emphasised that the rights to freedom of religion and belief in Vietnam are fully protected under the 2013 Constitution and national law.

Vietnam firmly rejects the assessments in USCIRF’s 2026 report as those evaluations are inaccurate, unobjective, and based on misleading evidence aimed at Vietnam, she said.

She reaffirmed that Vietnam’s consistent policy is to respect and ensure human rights, including the freedom of religion and belief, fully reflected in law and in practice. Citizens are not discriminated against based on religion or belief, and activities of religious organisations are legally guaranteed and conducted in accordance with the law.

Vietnam is ready to engage in open, frank, and constructive dialogue with the United States on issues of mutual concern, in line with the comprehensive strategic partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development between the two countries, she said.

According to the spokesperson, Vietnam continues to strengthen legal frameworks and governance mechanisms to uphold religious freedom, ensure transparency, and promote compliance with international human rights standards, demonstrating the country’s commitment to responsible international cooperation.

Misleading claims on religious freedom contradict reality in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Despite notable progress in ensuring freedom of belief and religion, several international organisations have continued to issue assessments that misrepresent the religious situation in Vietnam, drawing concern from observers who stress the need for objective, evidence-based evaluations.
