Vietnam reaffirms green development commitment at Hamburg meeting
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc participated in a penal discussion “Re-Designing Economic Systems for Sustainable Future” in Hamburg, Germany, on October 8, as part of the Hamburg Sustainability Conference 2024.
As a keynote speaker, Phoc noted that the world is evolving quickly filled with conflicts, strategic competition, and non-traditional security threats impacting development resources, hindering the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this context, he said the international community needs to better leverage scientific and technological achievements, innovate thinking, and put forward new solutions and concrete actions to transform national and global economies towards greener, more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient paths, ensuring harmonious development based on nature and guaranteeing equity for all.
To achieve this, the Deputy PM emphasized that at the national level, it is essential to promote self-reliance through restructuring the economy in line with transitioning the growth model and innovating economic management mechanisms toward sustainability, facilitating access for businesses and citizens to new resources and opportunities.
At the international level, he stated that it is important to uphold the spirit of solidarity and establish equal, mutually beneficial partnerships to support one another in transformation, development, technology transfer, technical assistance, capacity building, and resource support. He stressed the need to effectively address debt issues sustainably while promoting the restructuring and transformation of global governance toward greater efficiency, transparency, and fairness, to enhance resilience and support for national economies, and enable developing countries to access loans and aid for green investment projects, renewable energy, and environmentally friendly industries.
The Deputy Prime Minister also reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitments to greener and more sustainable development to improve people’s lives.
Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc had meetings with the President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, and the Minister of Economy and Planning of Saudi Arabia, Faisal bin Fadel Al-Ibrahim.
Meeting with Mbumba, Phoc reiterated Vietnam’s policy of strengthening friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Namibia. He suggested both sides enhance delegation exchanges, connect businesses, and promote information sharing about market needs, potential, and strengths of each country.
He requested that Namibia facilitate its market accessibility for Vietnam’s key export products, such as rice, agricultural products, household goods, textiles, and wood, and cooperate in its strong sectors like minerals and precious metals. He also encouraged Namibia to create favourable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in and explore agricultural cooperation opportunities between the two sides or with a third party.
Mbumba for his part congratulated Vietnam on its impressive socio-economic achievements and its increasingly high international role and reputation, expressing Namibia’s desire to further develop friendly and multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam.
He agreed that the two countries need to enhance economic and trade cooperation and increase high-level delegation exchanges and meetings between their ministries, sectors, and businesses. He also emphasized the importance of close coordination and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Group of 77 (G77).
On this occasion, Phoc conveyed an invitation from General Secretary and State President To Lam for Mbumba to visit Vietnam in 2025, to coincide with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
At his meeting with Al-Ibrahim, Phoc emphasized that Saudi Arabia is one of Vietnam’s most important partners in the Middle East. He urged both sides to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels and to well prepare for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s official visit to Saudi Arabia at the end of October 2024.
He also requested Al-Ibrahim’s support in encouraging Saudi funds and businesses to increase investment in Vietnam, as well as in developing Vietnam’s Halal industry and fully lifting the temporary ban on importing Vietnamese aquaculture products.
In turn, Al-Ibrahim confirmed that Vietnam is a top important partner for Saudi Arabia, not only in Asia but globally. He also pledged to work to promote trade and investment cooperation between the two countries’ businesses.
Both sides agreed to develop a cooperation roadmap, identify specific projects and investment areas, as well as business opportunities between their enterprises, and enhance cooperation within global and regional multilateral mechanisms.
