Vietnam reaffirms commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

VOV.VN - A senior Vietnamese diplomat voiced Vietnam’s strong support and commitment to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations at the 2025 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York, USA, on July 22.

Speaking at the event themed UN@ 80: Catalyzing Change for Sustainable Development, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, emphasised that in the face of mounting global and institutional challenges, stronger multilateral cooperation with bold, decisive actions is essential.

He welcomed efforts to reform the United Nations, including the UN80 Initiative, viewing it as an opportunity to build a more streamlined, effective, and context-responsive UN system, particularly at the national level. He also shared Vietnam’s successful implementation of the “One UN” initiative as a model for ongoing reform.

Highlighting the pivotal role of science, technology, and innovation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the diplomat called for equitable access by developing countries to advanced technologies, knowledge, and digital infrastructure, through technology transfer, capacity building, and innovation cooperation.

He underscored the importance of the private sector in driving sustainable development through innovation, green investment, job creation, and the building of sustainable supply chains. He proposed strengthening public–private partnerships and promoting responsible business practices to accelerate the 2030 Agenda’s implementation.

The Ambassador urged developed countries to fulfill their financial commitments, support technology transfer, and enhance the capacities of developing countries to build sustainable infrastructure and industries. He also stressed that the UN Economic and Social Council should play a greater role in advancing global partnerships to scale up innovative solutions, especially those that leverage emerging technologies.

In concluding his statement, the Ambassador reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to multilateralism, the 2030 Agenda, and global partnerships to jointly pursue the SDGs and ensure that no one is left behind.

The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) is the central United Nations platform for the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The forum is convened annually under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council for eight days, including a three-day ministerial segment, The forum conducts regular in-depth reviews of progress on the Sustainable Development Goals and includes Voluntary National Reviews where countries present the findings from national reviews of progress with a view to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

This year, the HLPF is getting underway from July 14 to 23.
