P4G Summit adopts two documents on green transition, sustainable development

VOV.VN - The fourth Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit has adopted the Hanoi Declaration on Sustainable and People-Centred Green Transition and the P4G Declaration on Strengthening Multilateral and Institutional Partnerships to Promote Green Transition and Sustainable Development.

The gathering took place in Hanoi on April 16-17, with the participation of more than 1,000 delegates, including leaders, representatives from various countries, international and regional organisations, as well as scholars and business leaders.

At the closing ceremony in Hanoi on April 17, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh noted that the green transition is an essential and strategic priority to achieving sustainable development goals. He highlighted the importance of global cooperation and comprehensive partnerships between governments, businesses, communities, and individuals to ensure inclusive and fair development.

According to the Prime Minister, the discussions during the summit were lively and insightful, with participants sharing valuable lessons, success stories, and proposing breakthrough green development initiatives. In addition, the summit also featured meaningful activities, such as exhibitions of green production solutions, green products, and business networking events.

The Prime Minister emphasised the five key agreements reached at the conference.

Firstly, delegates reached consensus on mobilising finance to promote the green transition and sustainable development through public-private partnership models and innovative financial policies.

Secondly, there was agreement on encouraging research and development of green technological solutions, investing more in ecosystems, innovation, especially the startup ecosystem, and providing conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises to access necessary resources and support.

Thirdly, participants agreed on the sustainable transformation of agriculture and food systems, ensuring both food security and nutritional security, while playing a vital role in environmental protection and sustainable development.

Fourthly, they also reached consensus on the development and training of a high-quality workforce, particularly in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, creating conditions for individuals to have the right to access quality education, expanding employment opportunities, and reducing social inequalities.

Fifthly, there was agreement on efficient and sustainable energy transition, promoting environmentally friendly practices, increasing cooperation in developing and sharing technology, providing concessional loans for renewable energy projects, building the necessary infrastructure to support the energy transition, and encouraging private sector involvement in this area.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister called on nations, organisations, and businesses to “work together to contribute to the green future of the world, by turning commitments into action, ideas into concrete projects, and consensus into strong determination to implement, towards a sustainable and prosperous future for all nations, peoples, and everyone.”

On this occasion, he reiterated Vietnam’s consistent foreign policy of peace, independence, self-reliance, and the diversification and multilateralization of international relations. Vietnam is a good friend and a trusted partner with all countries around the world, a responsible member of the international community for the goals of peace, cooperation, and development. At the same time, it remains committed to its carbon neutrality goal by 2050, contributing to promoting inclusive and sustainable green transition towards a green planet for present-day and future generations.

At the closing ceremony, Vietnam officially handed over the role of hosting the fifth P4G Summit to Ethiopia.

“I wish Ethiopia great success in hosting the P4G Summit in 2027, continuing the significance of the P4G cooperation process following the successes of previous summits in Denmark, the Republic of Korea, Colombia, and Vietnam,” said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, while handing over the symbol of the P4G summit to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali.

Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a leader–business dialogue on Public–Private Partnership for innovation and sustainability.

Addressing the dialogue, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed praised Vietnam as one of the leading countries in renewable energy in Southeast Asia, with the potential to attract trillions of US dollars in investment. She emphasised that emerging economies must do more to reach 2030 goals, particularly by investing in new models that meet the infrastructure and green energy needs of developing countries.

Francesco Corvaro, special envoy for Climate Change of the Italian Government, highlighted the strategic importance of public–private partnerships in the transition toward a green economy not only in Italy but also in countries like Vietnam.

“The green transition demands investment, innovation, and efficient coordination through PPPs. In Italy, the government has led investments, drawing the private sector into key areas such as renewable energy and green technology while creating new jobs for the youth,” he shared.

Taking the floor, the Vietnamese Prime Minister stressed that public–private partnerships are the key to achieving sustainable development goals. He noted that sustainable development must ensure equal access to health care, education, employment, and livelihoods for all, particularly prioritizing policies for the elderly and people who contribute to the revolution.

He called on all countries to build a comprehensive, efficient, and inclusive ecosystem for PPP, viewing it as vital for accelerating green, inclusive, and sustainable growth.
