Vietnam ready to support Thailand and Cambodia in ceasefire agreement enforcement
VOV.VN - Vietnam welcomes the July 28 ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, and stays ready to support the two countries in implementing the deal for regional peace and stability, said Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Son was speaking during his talks in Bangkok on July 29 with Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa. He said Vietnam is deeply concerned about recent developments as both Thailand and Cambodia are close friends of Vietnam.
Vietnam hopes that the two sides will exercise restraint, refrain from the use of force, and settle their differences peacefully and appropriately based on the fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), he said.
He expressed Vietnam’s desire to play a constructive role in assisting the two countries in implementing the ceasefire agreement in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity, for the long-term interests of both sides and of the region as a whole.
Maris, for his part, shared the results of a July 28 meeting in Putrajaya, where Thailand’s Acting Prime Minister and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, under the facilitation of Malaysia as 2025 ASEAN Chair, agreed to a ceasefire effective July 29. He reiterated Thailand’s desire to resolve disputes with Cambodia through peaceful means.
During the meeting, the two ministers expressed satisfaction with the positive momentum in bilateral relations, especially after Vietnam and Thailand officially upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They noted growing political trust, increasingly close diplomatic ties, and robust economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Cooperation in science and technology, tourism, education, culture, transportation, and people-to-people exchanges has also seen significant progress.
Recalling their meeting at the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Malaysia in July, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing outcomes of the 4th Joint Cabinet Meeting held in May 2025. They agreed to quickly formulate an action programme for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2026–2030 period with concrete, result-oriented initiatives.
The two sides emphasised the need to establish a Joint Working Group to develop a roadmap for the “Three Connectivity” Strategy, and to effectively tap into new areas with strong potential, including science, technology, innovation, digital economy, green economy, renewable energy, and energy transition.
Maris praised the strength of bilateral trade and investment, describing it as a highlight in Thailand–Vietnam relations. He thanked Vietnam for facilitating Thai enterprises operating in Vietnam and requested continued support in removing obstacles for Thai investors.
The two ministers agreed to encourage businesses from both countries to expand investment and trade cooperation. They committed to facilitating market access for each other's goods and striving to raise two-way trade to US$25 billion in a more balanced and sustainable manner.
They also agreed to enhance tourism cooperation, including through ASEAN tourism connectivity initiatives, and stressed the importance of expanding locality-to-locality partnerships and people-to-people exchanges.
