Vietnam ready to share green growth experience with G77 countries

VOV.VN - Vietnam is ready to coordinate and share green growth, sustainable development, and energy transition experience with G77 countries, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told the G77 summit on climate change in Dubai on December 2.

He highlighted Vietnam’s carbon neutrality commitment through joining the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) and adopting strategies on green growth, sustainable development, and energy transition.

Emphasizing that combating climate change requires a global approach, the PM underscored the need to promote a global and all people-based approach and uphold multilateralism in addressing the issue, taking into account socio-economic development demand of developing countries.

He placed the emphasis on science-technology and innovation cooperation in G77, and to do this he suggested establishing an inclusive cooperation mechanism and tapping into the strengths of both developed countries thanks to their capital and technology, and developing countries in terms of markets and resources.

According to the Vietnamese PM, preferential climate finance needs to be more accessible, does not increase the debt burden, and cannot be traded off against resources to achieve other development goals.

In his remarks, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez who chaired the summit stressed the importance of enhancing international solidarity and cooperation in response to major global challenges. He called on G77 countries to stay united, share voice, and ensure the rights and legitimate interests of developing countries that are directly and indirectly bearing the brunt of climate change.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres highlighted the role of developing countries in promoting a multilateral process for climate targets. He called on developed economies to quickly increase assistance for Global South countries, and at the same time fulfil their climate finance commitments.
