Vietnam promotes defense cooperation with ADMM and ADMM+ countries

Hoang Xuan Chien, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense had meetings with the heads of delegations from Laos, Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia, China, Russia, and the United States on the sidelines of the ASEAN Senior Defense Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) and the ASEAN Senior Defense Officials’ Meeting Plus (ADSOM+) held in Laos from September 24-27.
Meeting with Lieutenant General Somphone Mittaphone, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Lao People’s Army and head of the Lao ADSOM delegation, Chien affirmed Vietnam’s full support for Laos in successfully assuming the role of ASEAN Chair in 2024 and stated that Vietnam will send a delegation to participate at the highest level in the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting (ADMM) and the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+).
The two Generals exchanged measures to implement defense cooperation documents between Vietnam and Laos. They pledged to coordinate closely at significant defense and security events both bilaterally and multilaterally.
During a bilateral meeting with General Sanitchanog Sangkachantra, the Permanent Secretary of the Thai Ministry of Defense, the two generals praised the substantial and effective cooperation between the two ministries in recent times through high-level exchanges, consultations, and dialogues, yielding concrete outcomes.
They agreed to enhance delegation exchanges; strengthen cooperation in military and specialized forces, especially between the law enforcement agencies at sea; and promote collaboration in the defense industry, logistics, military medicine, search and rescue, as well as sharing experiences regarding the military’s role in epidemic prevention, drug trafficking control, and border management.
Also on the sidelines of the ADSOM and ADSOM+ meetings, Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien held bilateral discussions with the heads of delegation from Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, China, Russia, and the United States, to promote bilateral defense cooperation.
These bilateral meetings contributed to increasing political trust, building confidence measures and cooperation, thereby making Vietnam’s defense relations with its partners more substantial, effective, and practical.
