Vietnam pledges deeper political trust, strategic cohesion with Laos
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on December 3 met with Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, vowing to strengthen the neighbours’ long-standing special relationship and expand cooperation as both countries enter new development phases.
Party General Secretary and President Sisoulith welcomed Prime Minister Chinh’s visit, which coincided with events marking the 50th anniversary of Laos’ National Day. He said the PM’s attendance at the 48th Vietnam–Laos Intergovernmental Committee Meeting and the 2025 Vietnam – Laos Investment Promotion Conference in Vientiane on December 3 underscored the importance Vietnam places on bilateral ties.
The Lao leader also expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s continued political support and economic assistance, calling it an essential factor in Laos’ national construction efforts.
The PM congratulated Laos on its 50 years of development and 40 years of reform, noting its rising international profile, particularly after chairing ASEAN in 2024. He believed Laos would successfully implement its socio-economic development plan and prepare for the 12th National Party Congress under General Secretary Sisoulith’s leadership.
During the meeting, the PM said Vietnam would continue giving the highest priority to its unique relationship with Laos, describing enhanced political trust as the central pillar driving cooperation across all areas. He highlighted key outcomes of the Intergovernmental Committee Meeting and the 2025 Vietnam–Laos Investment Cooperation Conference, saying both sides would promptly convert high-level agreements into a joint action plan with clear timelines.
The leaders discussed measures to deepen strategic cohesion, focusing on infrastructure links, cross-border economic corridors, digital transformation, cybersecurity, and data-centre development. They also agreed to strengthen cooperation in education, vocational training, and human-resource development. The PM requested that Laos continue facilitating Vietnamese businesses’ operation in energy, agriculture, and services.
Both sides noted progress in political, security, and economic cooperation during the 2021–2025 period, including improved coordination mechanisms and advances in resolving long-standing project bottlenecks. They said these achievements created a solid foundation for further expanding bilateral ties.
Party General Secretary and President Sisoulith praised the substantive and effective outcomes of the 48th Intergovernmental Committee Meeting, saying the new measures and roadmaps proposed by both governments would help accelerate cooperation in key sectors and reinforce the policy direction agreed by the two Parties’ top leaders.
