Vietnam National Assembly President visits revolutionary sites in Yan’an, China
VOV.VN - Vietnamese National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man on October 14 visited Zaoyuan and Yangjialing, two historic revolutionary sites in Yan’an, Shaanxi province, China, highlighting their significance to the revolutionary histories of Vietnam and China and opportunities to expand people-to-people exchanges.
The visit took place as part of National Assembly President Man’s official visit to China and his co-chairing of the second session of the Cooperation Committee between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National People’s Congress of China.
At the Zaoyuan Revolutionary Site, National Assembly President Man and other Vietnamese officials visited a site associated with President Ho Chi Minh’s activities in China. The site holds particular significance for Vietnam as well as China, reflecting the historical ties between Ho Chi Minh and generations of Chinese revolutionary leaders.
According to historical accounts, Ho Chi Minh travelled to Yan’an in the winter of 1938 after returning from the Soviet Union via Xinjiang and Xi’an. He stayed at Zaoyuan and met Mao Zedong and other Chinese revolutionary leaders to discuss the revolutionary movements in the two countries.
Ho Chi Minh returned to the residence in 1959 and took a commemorative photograph there.
Zaoyuan is among the major revolutionary heritage sites in Yan’an, where the Communist Party of China established its leadership base during a pivotal period in its history. Together with the Yangjialing Revolutionary Site and other sites, it forms part of a wider complex preserving the history of the Party’s revolutionary activities.
The delegation also visited Yangjialing, a site closely associated with the development of the Communist Party of China during the resistance against Japanese aggression and preparations for the period that followed the war.
The site is preserved as a place for historical and political education, reflecting the Party’s organisational development and revolutionary traditions. It was also visited by Chinese President Xi Jinping and other members of the Communist Party of China’s leadership in October 2022 following the Party’s 20th National Congress.
During the visit, Wang Haipeng, Secretary of the Yan’an Municipal Party Committee, welcomed National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and his entourage, describing the visit as an opportunity to strengthen exchanges between Yan’an and Vietnamese localities.
Wang said the city has considerable development potential in energy, agriculture and tourism, adding that its leadership attaches importance to friendly cooperation with Vietnam and is ready to work with Vietnamese localities to implement the shared understandings reached by the two countries’ senior leaders.
The top Vietnamese legislator expressed his appreciation for the city’s efforts to preserve revolutionary heritage, saying the sites provide an opportunity to reflect on the traditional friendship between the two countries and the close ties between Ho Chi Minh and earlier generations of Chinese leaders.
He encouraged Yan’an to strengthen connections with Vietnamese localities, expand people-to-people exchanges and promote tourism cooperation, particularly red tourism tracing the footsteps of revolutionary leaders from both countries. He further called for greater cooperation in preserving and promoting historical and cultural heritage.
The visit underscored the continuing role of historical ties in fostering exchanges between Vietnam and China, while opening up opportunities for deeper cooperation in tourism, cultural heritage and local engagement.
